Our Salvaged Wood
Canada is a vast country with many forests covering the land. The province of Ontario is blessed with both native hardwoods and softwoods that have been growing here naturally for thousands of years. Most people relate large wooded rural forests to the lumber supply that they know of nowadays and the barren land that is left behind from clear cutting that ravages wildlife that live within.
We don’t often think of the trees in the city as a forest, but they are a vital part of the urban ecosystem. There are so many benefits from the collective assembly of these trees that can be rendered to the environment and society. Urban Forestry looks after the care and management of these urban forests. In the city of Toronto there are roughly 10 million trees lining streets, parks, right of ways and back yards. There comes the time when an urban tree needs to be removed from the growing location due to insects, disease, urban distress and development. Urban Tree Salvage recycles these trees that have been removed for those reasons and sells live edge slabs and lumber as well as produces live edge slab tables. Urban Tree Salvage does not remove trees, rather recycles felled logs only. Our stock consists of locally grown species such as Maple, Ash, Elm, Basswood, Red Oak, Poplar, Locusts and many others.
We in turn mill and kiln dry all the material and offer for purchase to public and trade for residential, commercial, hospitality and institutional applications. Our Reclaimed wood
Our reclaimed lumber and timber come from a variety of local sources. Barns across Ontario are slowly falling down if they have not been repaired from years of non-use. Ontario barns that were built many years ago were all constructed with locally grown trees that were harvested from the build location and made into lumber. The hardiness zone of the barn as well as the date the barn was built usually dictated what material was used for construction. Reclaimed barnboard is typically made of pine, hemlock and spruce and is offered in grey board, brown board, red board and threshing.
Urban Tree Salvage also recycles demolition and construction waste such as excavated historical timbers that were discovered when building condominiums in downtown Toronto and reclaimed building timbers that were salvaged from old buildings around Ontario. Urban Tree Salvage reclaims these materials and sells them as raw lumber and furniture such as reclaimed dining tables, reclaimed coffee tables, reclaimed console tables and reclaimed benches.
